Tips for How to Water Your Lawn Effectively

Chris Jamieson Lawn Care

As any Fort Worth resident knows, the weather over the summer is hot and dry. While that is the perfect condition for hitting the swimming pool, your lawn does not exactly enjoy it. Our team at Lawn Connections wants to help our clients keep their grass looking green all year long. In order to do that, it is important to know how to water your lawn effectively once those high temperatures hit. Here are a few basic tips any homeowner can follow.

The Right Timing

Contrary to what many may think, you do not need to water your lawn every day. A basic Fort Worth lawn care tip is to walk through your yard and then turn around. Can you see your footprint impressions? Then it is time to water your lawn.

Rise and Shine

Wake up early, put on the coffee, and turn on the sprinkler. If you wait to do it until the afternoon, you can actually lose up to 30 percent of the water to evaporation. Water the lawn before the sun comes up and while air temperatures are still cool, which will allow the roots to soak up all that H20.

It Doesn’t Take Much

Want to know how to water your lawn effectively? Don’t overdo it. You should only run the sprinklers until the ground has accumulated 1 to 2 inches of water. Grab a tuna can and put it on the grass as the water runs. Make a note of how long it takes to fill the can, which is typically between 10 and 20 minutes, and water your lawn no longer than that every day.
