Summer Lawn Maintenance Tips for a Lush and Green Lawn

Chris Jamieson Lawn Care

A healthy, green lawn is every homeowner’s dream during the summertime. However, without proper summer lawn maintenance, your lawn may start to look a little dry and brown. At Lawn Connections, we recommend fertilizing, irrigating, and using mulch for the perfect summer lawn.

Fertilization

Fertilization is one of the best ways to ensure your lawn gets the nutrients it needs throughout the entire summer. Fertilization can also promote new growth, help your lawn recover from foot traffic, and reduce the number of weeds growing in your yard. It’s important to remember that summer lawn maintenance is a process that should begin long before temperatures start to warm up. Typically, you should fertilize your lawn at the beginning of spring for warm-season grasses.

Irrigation

Your lawn needs plenty of water to survive, especially during the summer. However, it’s important to keep in mind that you should only irrigate your lawn when your grass needs it. Typically, the blades of grass in your lawn will start to take on a bluish-gray tint when they need water. When you do irrigate your lawn, make sure that you water it deeply to encourage healthy root growth.

Using Mulch

Mulch should also be included in your summer lawn maintenance routine. Doing this can prevent weeds from growing and also prevent lawn damage when the temperatures get extremely hot. Although it may not look very pretty at first, spread the mulch evenly across the surface of your lawn and remove it whenever you want to prepare your lawn for new growth.
